Voter ID Information
Personal identification is required in order to register to vote AND to vote at a particular election in the State of Missouri.
Identification Required to Register to Vote
RSMO Section 115.135.2 provides that a person applying to register to vote “shall identify himself or herself by presenting a copy of a birth certificate, a Native American tribal document, other proof of United States citizenship, a valid Missouri drivers license or other form of personal identification . . . .” Such “other form of personal identification” would include a current photo ID, utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck or other government document that shows the applicant’s name and address.
Identification Required to Vote
RSMO Section 115.427.1 similarly requires a voter, before he or she may be issued a ballot, to present some form of personal identification. Acceptable forms of personal ID include:
- Identification issued by the State of Missouri, an agency of the state, or a local election authority (such as a Voter ID Card).
- Identification issued by the U.S. government or an agency of the U.S. government (such as a Social Security card).
- Identification issued by an institution of higher education (including a college, university, vocational or technical school) located within the State of Missouri.
- A current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck or other government document that contains the name and address of the voter.
- A driver’s license or state identification card issued by another state.
- Personal knowledge of the voter by both poll managers or supervisors upon completion of an affidavit signed by both managers/supervisors and the voter.
NOTE: A PHOTO ID IS NOT REQUIRED IN ORDER TO VOTE IN MISSOURI.
